Our focus of inquiry will be on pre-Incan cultures in Peru, where archaeologists have unearthed extraordinary objects demonstrating unexcelled artistic crafts(wo)manship, such as intricate embroideries in which the threads are so finely woven that the work(wo)manship cannot be replicated today by expert seamstresses. Burials of priestesses and shaman women have been found, one female "mummy bundle" covered in a bird mask and a cape made of thousands of toucan feathers. Monumental stones were somehow cut, shaped, and used to build amazing structures that still stand today, in spite of this being an active seismic zone. Ancient lines scratched on the desert floor depict beautifully exectuted giant animals, birds, and insect shapes that can be perceived only from the sky. At the same time, we hope to experience contemporary Peruvian people living in the cities, deserts and mountains we visit. Knowing that there is a living tradition in Peru of female shamans, healers, and medicine women, the herbal knowledge and agricultural know-how that they represent will be part of the subtext of our trip. The local foods they prepare, the traditional beer they brew, the arts and crafts they produce will all be avenues for transmission and exchange of meaning and value for us along the way. This women's tour is led by me and my Chilean friend, *Luzclara*, who is an initiated shaman and for many years has taken women on tours into the Andes for healing, ceremony, and educational growth. Luzclara--mother, grandmother, and young elder--is an authentic ritual leader whose ability to "call down the ancestral energies" creates a sacred space for personal and group healing. She has led many women's retreats in North and South America, bringing to each encounter her sacred totems of laughter and joy, and the wisdom and healing which are the earmarks of her personal expression. As most of you know, I have also done sacred work with women in groups and individually for the last thirty years, helping to awaken, ground, and stabilize the healing energies, researching and teaching about female shamanism (both ancient and contemporary), and leading western women on pilgrimage tours to sacred sites where we might gain access to alternate ways of knowing, be-ing, and living on the planet. My hope with any trip we take is that the women will be so deeply imprinted by the culture and the ancient ways of wisdom that we contact there, that each of us will come home empowered to make a difference in the world through our awakened state and changed perceptions of reality. I look forward to hearing from you soon and hope that you will consider joining us on this historic visit to Peru. Blessings and love, Vicki Noble
